Description

In 1913-1916, Jegenstorf Castle underwent a significant renovation led by Arthur von Stürler. This transformation, done in the Neobaroque style, included adding modern amenities and decorative paintings. After Arthur von Stürler's passing, the estate was auctioned. In response, a preservation association was founded, acquiring the castle and turning it into a museum showcasing Bernese domestic culture from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Since 1955, the Jegenstorf Castle Foundation has owned and operated the estate, organizing special exhibitions from May to October each year. Notably, during World War II, the castle served as the headquarters for the Swiss Army's Commander-in-Chief, General Guisan. Additionally, in November 1954, the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie stayed at Jegenstorf Castle during his Swiss state visit.

A beautiful castle to tour (wonderul period furniture) or to stroll around in the magnificent gardens. You can even have a coffee inside.
