Description

The place used to be a castle for a noble family called the Lords of Ems.

In 1343, Knight Ulrich I of Ems built a new castle in Emsreute, near his old castle Alt-Ems. It was a safe haven for his family during uncertain times. During a war in 1407, the castle was destroyed but quickly rebuilt by the Counts of Hohenems. In 1603, a chapel was added, but only two windows remain today. The chapel's artwork is now in the Tyrolean State Museum since 1835.

Since 1843, the castle has been owned by the Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems family. It has a unique design with a tall tower, a palace, and a lower courtyard.
