Description

Despite its Baroque transformation following the French style, Bottmingen Castle's medieval character is primarily evident in its floor plan. Unlike moated castles like Hallwyl Castle or Hagenwil, Bottmingen Castle lacks a keep, connecting it to the Burgundian-Savoyard castle type with a towered square. Johannes Deucher transformed Bottmingen Castle into a country estate in the French Early Baroque style in 1720, nearly completely preserved. The staircase, along with the exterior architecture, reflects this style. Under Martin Wenk in 1780, the Rococo style prevailed, noticeable in the precious stucco in the Stone Hall. Wenk also lowered the southeast corner to courtyard level, now serving as a garden terrace. Today, Bottmingen Castle functions as a restaurant and hosts banquets, weddings, and other festive occasions.

They don’t have rooms, but, so I’m told, the atmosphere is impossible to beat. Near Zürich, this moated castle is classicly elegant.
