Description

The Palazzo Estense in Varese has origins in an 18th-century villa and was expanded and renovated by Duke Francesco in 1765. Designed by engineer Giuseppe Antonio Bianchi, it passed through various owners. In 1882, the Municipality of Varese acquired it, opening it to the public in 1883. The exterior showcases Lombard Baroque with a romantic garden. Inside, notable spaces include the Salone Estense and the grand staircase. The park, influenced by Schönbrunn, combines Romantic and French garden styles. Villa Mirabello, built in the 18th century, stands adjacent to the estate.
