Description
The Palazzo Comunale in San Gimignano, also known as the Palazzo del Popolo, has been the civic seat since the 13th century. Located on Piazza del Duomo, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Noted for its frescoes by Memmo di Filippuccio and Lippo Memmi, the building now houses a museum with works from the Florentine and Sienese schools. Dating back to the late 13th century, it features arched windows, a courtyard with coats of arms, and the prominent "Torre Grossa." The Civic Museum, on the upper floors, includes the "Sala di Dante" with Lippo Memmi's Maestà. The gallery displays works by renowned artists, and the Podestà apartments feature unique frescoes depicting matrimonial scenes by Memmo di Filippuccio from the early 14th century.
