Description

The castle at this site, dating back to the 13th century, was initially a circular structure with three corner towers. Later, in 1475, a new castle was built, giving the complex its present square layout. The castle's core consisted of three corner towers and a massive keep. In 1480, an ornate Isabelino-Mudejar gallery was added, making it a prime example of Flamboyant architecture. The castle, strategically positioned at the border of Castile and León, served as a protective stronghold for ducal estates. Its imposing appearance, enhanced by decorative elements, aimed to deter potential enemies, even deceiving those who might challenge its defensive capabilities.
