Description

Built under Louis XV and Louis XVI, and then refurbished under Napoleon I and Napoleon III, the Castle of Compiègne was a reigning and court life centre. It is the largest neo-classical palace of France and the beauty of its interior decoration and furniture make it a splendid ensemble, a place steeped in history that, together with Versailles and Fontainebleau, happened to be one of the three most important royal and imperial French residences.
