Description

Ruin Mesocco Castle, once strategically acquired by General Giacomo Trivulzio for Milan, faced tension over payment, leading to a failed siege in 1483. Trivulzio later paid the outstanding sum, strengthening and expanding the castle by 1490. Despite its fortifications, the Three Leagues ordered abandonment in 1526, relocating the valley's administrative center. The castle, now in ruins, atop a small mountain, underwent restoration in 1925-26 and 1986-90. The pentagonal structure with five towers housed the count's family, soldiers, and various facilities, including a church. The Church of Santa Maria al Castello, at its base, features 15th-century frescoes.
