Description
Humpis Castle, situated in Brochenzell, traces its origins to 1277 when it was first mentioned as "Brobhentel." Originally held by the Counts of Heiligenberg, it later passed through various hands, including the Humpis family. In 1447, the Humpis family acquired the lordship and, in the mid-16th century, replaced the old castle with a small palace. A significant renovation in 1624 added a corner tower and a well.
The castle changed ownership in 1721 when the Weingarten Monastery acquired the lordship. By 1748, it was expanded into an administrative building. In 1810, Württemberg established the administrative office of Brochenzell in the castle. However, in 1823, the administration moved to Ettenkirch, diminishing the castle's importance.
