Description

Dating back to around the year 1000, Schloss Uster is a historic castle located in the Swiss town of Uster, in the Canton of Zürich. Positioned at 496 meters above sea level, it stands as a prominent symbol of Uster. The castle's medieval origins include modifications, with the oldest parts of the tower dating to approximately 1200. Throughout the medieval period, Schloss Uster changed hands and underwent renovations, playing a role in regional conflicts such as the Appenzell Wars in the 15th century. In the 19th century, the castle experienced multiple changes of ownership until it was acquired and restored by textile magnate Jakob Heusser-Staub in 1916. Serving as the seat of the district administration since 1852, the castle remains a well-preserved landmark with a vineyard, castle garden, and panoramic views of Uster and Lake Greifensee. Additionally, it hosts the private Schloss Schule Uster, functioning as an educational institution since 1995.
