Description

The Königsegg Castle, situated near the boat landing stage on Reichenau Island in Mittelzell, serves as a school for logopedics today. In the late Middle Ages, it was the seat of a ministerial of the Reichenau Abbey. During the 16th century, the castle underwent reconstruction by the Imperial Counts of Königsegg. In the 17th century, the Augustinian Canonry of the Beuron Monastery acquired and renovated the castle. Retaining ownership until the early 19th-century secularization, the castle changed hands multiple times before being taken over by the municipality of Reichenau in 1983. Its current neo-Romanesque appearance dates back to 1840. From 1995, the castle housed the IB Medical Education Academy, specializing in logopedics. Unfortunately, the castle is not open for public visits.
