Description

Germolles Castle, initially a medieval fortress, transformed into a luxurious residence in the 14th century. It features well-preserved medieval rooms, a grand entrance staircase, and a chapel restored after a 19th-century fire. Originally owned by the Lords of Germolles, the castle was acquired by Philippe le Hardi in 1380. Under the ownership of Duchess Marguerite III de Flandre, the fortress underwent significant renovations, becoming a palatial complex with wings for apartments, reception areas, and guard quarters. The duchess also introduced rustic activities like a rose garden and a model sheepfold. The castle stands as a unique blend of medieval and Renaissance influences.
