Description

ʻIolani Barracks, designed like medieval European castles, has crenelated parapets and towers. Built with coral blocks, it served as a military facility. In 1873, a mutiny led to the disbandment of the Hawaiian Army. Post-monarchy, it had various uses and was moved to its current location in 1965 for the Hawaiʻi State Capitol. Today, it serves as a visitors center for ʻIolani Palace.
