Description

Coppet Castle, rooted in medieval history, evolved through the centuries. Originally fortified with circular and rectangular towers, the castle underwent reconstruction after a 1536 invasion. Lesdiguières initiated significant 17th-century renovations, and later, Frédéric de Dohna transformed it into a more residential space, introducing a spacious courtyard and a modern French-inspired facade in 1657. Passing through various owners, including François de Lesdiguières and Daniel de Bellujon, the castle found stability with Frédéric de Dohna in 1657. Dohna, a key figure in the principality of Orange, sought refuge in Coppet. Alexander zu Dohna-Schlobitten, his son, resumed castle restoration between 1697 and 1704. Over the years, Coppet Castle witnessed a rich tapestry of history, embodying the diverse narratives of its occupants.
