Beaune Castle

The Beaune Castle is a 19th-century castle with Burgundy glazed tiles, constructed on the site of the 15th-century Beaune fortress. It currently serves as the headquarters for the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard since 1872. Originally built by Louis XI after the Hundred Years' War, the castle underwent reinforcements by subsequent kings. In 1595, residents, aided by Charles de Gontaut-Biron, secured its surrender during the conflict with the Lorraine duke. Henri IV ordered its demolition in 1602, completed in 1606. The city sold the site in 1780, later acquired by Bernard Bouchard in 1820, establishing vine cellars. Bouchard Père & Fils settled there in 1872. The castle has been a part of the historical monuments since September 10, 1937.
