Description

The Old Town Hall in Lindau was originally built in 1422 in Gothic style, marking Lindau's development into an imperial city since 1396. King Maximilian I convened a Reichstag in its wood-paneled council chamber in 1496. In 1576, it underwent Renaissance-style renovations with a stair-gable. The tower bears bells dated 1617. The adjacent New Town Hall was built from 1706 to 1717. The 19th-century south facade depicts Lindau's history. The building, featuring trefoil gables, is adorned with a covered wooden staircase facing Bismarckplatz. It houses the Former Imperial City Library since 1952, with preserved spaces hosting city council meetings and receptions. The Alte Rathaus is a protected monument
