Description
Schloss Baldern, mentioned in historical records since the 11th century, has a rich heritage. In the mid-12th century, the noble family of Baldern owned the estate. By 1280, the castle came under the ownership of Count Ludwig V. von Oettingen. In the 15th century, it was temporarily pawned and later redeemed in 1507. Its present baroque elegance dates back to its time as the residence of the Counts of Oettingen-Baldern between 1718 and 1737. Architects Franz de Gabrieli and, after his passing, his brother Gabriel de Gabrieli, oversaw the renovations. Following the decline of the Oettingen-Baldern noble family in 1798, the estate passed to the Oettingen-Wallerstein princely house. Significant landscaping work, including the creation of a picturesque garden on the hill, took place in the 19th century. The tower, overseen by August von Beyer, was added in 1887. Schloss Baldern opened its doors to the public as early as 1896, inviting visitors to explore its fascinating history.
