Description
After World War II, Rötteln Castle faced changes. In 1949, Röttelnbund was re-established, with the city of Lörrach taking over the lower castle area in 1963. Plans for a new restaurant were shelved in 1967 due to financial constraints. Infrastructure improvements, including road construction and restroom facilities, were made in the 1960s. The castle's lighting was installed in 1967, illuminating it at night. In 1974, a restoration was needed after falling stones injured a visitor. The 2000s saw renovations, including opening the South Tower for visitors. In 2022, the castle was lit in Ukraine's national colors in solidarity with the country. Archaeological excavations, the first in 19 years, began in 2023, funded by the European Union's Interreg IV project. The findings will be displayed in a regional exhibition. The support of around 600 members ensures ongoing maintenance.
