Description

After the Regensberg conflict against the Habsburgs, led by Count Rudolf of Habsburg, the Regensberg family's economic and political decline began. In 1269, they sold Grüningen, one of their most valuable possessions, to the Habsburgs. This shift in power had profound consequences for the Zurich region. The Habsburgs took over the bailiwick of the Fahr Abbey and other properties. Ulrich von Neu-Regensberg even sold Neu-Regensberg to Habsburg-Austria in 1302. In 1331, the Regensberg family's male line ended with Lütold IX. In 1350, the remaining property passed to the Lords of Landenberg-Greifensee through inheritance.

The Regensberg Castle is part of a beautiful walled city on the outskirts of Zurich. And there’s only one place to stay worthy of nobility. That’s the Rote Rose Hotel, certainly a hotel with history and charm, just yards from the castle tower (which is open to visitors).
