Description

In 1926, the estate was purchased by American socialite Alva Belmont, formerly Mrs. William Kissam Vanderbilt, who transformed it into her primary residence. Inspired by Jacques Cœur's reported ownership, Belmont embarked on extensive restoration and renovation projects. She widened the river flowing through the estate, imported paving stones from Versailles to enhance the forecourt, and erected a grand neo-Gothic portal gate at the northern entrance. Inside, she made notable changes such as replacing wrought iron staircases and adding a bowling alley, one of the first in France.

Upon Belmont's passing in 1933, the chateau passed to her daughter Consuelo, who later sold it to a Swiss company in 1937. Between 1986 and 1989, the château and its 272-acre estate changed ownership twice. It has since been transformed into a luxury hotel, featuring a golf course established in 1995, designed by Olivier Dongradi, making it a prestigious destination for travelers seeking both historical charm and modern amenities.
