Description

The Château de la Balluère consists of a stone main building, with one wing dating from the 14th century and the other from the 15th century. The oldest part, originally a fortified house, became a true small fortress during the feudal era. With its moats and dungeons, it played a notable role during the Breton War of Succession and the Hundred Years’ War. In 1361, Bertrand du Guesclin held a garrison there, fiercely defending the site against Jean de Montfort, Duke of Brittany, who had allied with the King of England.
